When choosing a spotlight, attention often goes to design, colour temperature and light output. However, the beam angle is just as important. It determines how narrow or wide the light emitted by the luminaire will be.
A narrow beam creates a concentrated pool of light and can be ideal for highlighting artwork, an object or an architectural detail. A wider beam distributes light over a larger surface and can, for example, be used for more general lighting.
The ideal beam angle also depends on the distance between the luminaire and the surface you want to illuminate. The same beam behaves differently with a high ceiling than with a low ceiling. The position of the spotlight therefore also plays an important role.
Different beam angles can be combined within the same home. This creates a layered lighting effect in which certain elements are highlighted while other areas are illuminated more softly.
